HONG KONG, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Tuesday afternoon concluded the mitigation pleas of Jimmy Lai, an instigator of anti-China riots in Hong Kong, as well as those of other defendants in the case, with the court set to hand down sentencing at a later date.
On Dec. 15, 2025, the High Court of the HKSAR handed down a verdict on the national security case of Lai and three companies linked to the now-defunct Apple Daily, under charges of breaching the national security law in Hong Kong and other relevant legislation.
Lai was found guilty on two charges of conspiring to collude with external forces and a charge of conspiracy to publish seditious materials. The mitigation plea hearing for the defendants in Lai's case opened on Monday.
