Hong Kong court hears mitigation plea of Jimmy Lai

HONG KONG, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Monday convened a session to hear the mitigation plea of Jimmy Lai, an instigator of anti-China riots in Hong Kong, as well as those of other defendants in the case.

The hearings are expected to last four days.

The High Court of the HKSAR handed down a verdict on the national security case of Lai and three companies linked to the now-defunct Apple Daily on Dec. 15, 2025. Lai was found guilty on two charges of conspiring to collude with external forces and a charge of conspiracy to publish seditious materials.
