Hong Kong police arrest Joshua Wong for national security offenses

HONG KONG, June 6 (Xinhua) -- A 28-year-old man was arrested by the Hong Kong police on Friday for suspected "conspiracy to collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security."

The man was reportedly Joshua Wong, former secretary-general of the now-disbanded anti-China group "Demosisto." He was also arrested for suspected "dealing with property known or believed to represent proceeds of indictable offence," contravening Section 25 of the Organized and Serious Crimes Ordinance (Cap. 455), the National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force said in a press release.

Wong was charged with one count of "conspiracy to collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security." The case was mentioned at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts of Hong Kong this afternoon and was adjourned to Aug. 8.
