HONG KONG, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- A spokesperson for the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Friday slammed the European Parliament's so-called resolution on the case of Jimmy Lai and a report on foreign and security policy.
The resolution and the report have distorted facts, defamed the "one country, two systems" policy and the national security law in Hong Kong, and blatantly interfered with the trial of national security-related cases in Hong Kong, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson stressed that the judgement of Hong Kong's national security-related cases is an internal affair of the HKSAR, and its judicial affairs are not subject to external interference. The European Parliament's moves have breached the principles of international law and the basic norms of international relations.
Hong Kong is a society underpinned by the rule of law, where no one is above the law, the spokesperson said, adding that Lai's crimes were established with clear facts and conclusive evidence, and the trial was conducted in an open and transparent manner.
The spokesperson reiterated that Hong Kong affairs are entirely China's internal matters, urging relevant European politicians to abide by international law principles and the basic norms of international relations, and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal matters in any form.
