HKSAR gov't strongly denounces slanders on national security law in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Monday strongly condemned and opposed the malicious attacks on the national security law in Hong Kong and other laws safeguarding national security.

A spokesperson for the HKSAR government decried the slanderous and fact-distorting remarks made by foreign politicians, anti-China organizations and various media outlets on the HKSAR's work in safeguarding national security on the fifth anniversary of the promulgation and implementation of the national security law in Hong Kong.

These anti-China and destabilizing forces, organizations or media outlets have made sweepingly generalized and grandstanding comments, completely disregarding the profound historical significance of the national security law in Hong Kong and its undeniable positive impact on the HKSAR, said the spokesperson.

They distorted facts and made slanderous remarks on the HKSAR and the national security law in Hong Kong, and even attempted to interfere with criminal trials conducted in HKSAR courts, thereby obstructing the course of justice, noted the spokesperson.

Safeguarding national security is a top priority of every country. No country will tolerate any acts and activities endangering national security without taking any action. Any attempts to smear HKSAR's work in safeguarding national security with untruthful remarks are hypocritical and irresponsible, and will not win any public support, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson stressed that the HKSAR government will continue to uphold its constitutional duty and steadfastly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
