BRATISLAVA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- In the fight between two unexpectedly bottom-ranked teams, eight-time champion HC Kosice on Sunday managed to break a dry spell and finally achieve its first win in the new season of the Slovak ice hockey premiership Tipos Extraliga.
Kosice made the decisive move in the second period against HK Dukla Trencin by scoring three goals and building a 4-2 lead. Trencin failed to rally and lost 5-2 in the end, slipping back to the bottom of the rankings.
After the sixth round, three teams are tied with 13 points at the top of the standings, with HC Slovan Bratislava now leading the pack.
HC Nove Zamky made a massive jump to second place thanks to winning its third in a row, producing a tremendous third period against HC Spisska Nova Ves on Sunday.
HKM Zvolen slipped to third after losing to its local rival HC '05 Banska Bystrica in overtime.
