HONG KONG, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Summit 2022, themed "Emerging Opportunities in a New Paradigm of Regional Cooperation," was held here Wednesday with speakers sharing insights on the international financial hub's regional opportunities.

The 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland is a new start for Hong Kong, and the thorough and precise implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle is set to open up broader prospects for the development of Hong Kong, said Chief Executive of the HKSAR John Lee in his speech at the event.

Lee said Hong Kong will continue to be a pivotal Belt and Road partner, providing unique services to realize long-term growth and prosperity throughout the region and beyond.

These include providing project financing, professional services support, economic and trade cooperation, innovation and technology, capacity building, cultural exchanges, and more, he noted.

Jin Liqun, president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, said in his video speech that Hong Kong plays an important role in connecting the mainland with Asia and the world, building of green economy and other aspects.

Yuen Mo, chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong, said that with the full support of the country, Hong Kong's role as a "super connector" between the mainland and the world will be consolidated and deepened.

Hong Kong will play a more critical role in promoting regional economic and trade cooperation, Yuen said.

The Hong Kong Summit 2022 was co-organized by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
