Hong Kong reports 109 new COVID-19 cases

HONG KONG, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong reported 109 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours on Monday, taking the total tally to 13,395, according to data from the Center for Health Protection.

The newly reported cases consist of 11 imported cases, 85 cases epidemiologically linked with imported cases, five local cases, and eight cases epidemiologically linked with local cases.

Ninety-nine of the cases involve mutant strains, the mutation test results of nine cases are pending and the viral load of the remaining case is insufficient for mutation test, the center said.

Hong Kong reported 351 cases that tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days.

Since the launch of a mass inoculation program in February 2021, about 5.26 million people, or 78.1 percent of the eligible population in Hong Kong, have taken at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, while over 4.75 million, or 70.6 percent of the eligible population, have taken two doses.

Meanwhile, 815,368 people in Hong Kong have taken their third booster shot as of 8:00 p.m. local time Monday.
