SUVA -- At least three people have died and multiple injured in Tonga after Friday and Saturday's violent eruptions of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano, about 65 km north of Tonga's capital city of Nuku'alofa.

According to Radio New Zealand late Tuesday, the Tongan government has confirmed in its first official statement after the volcanic eruptions that three people have died -- one each on the islands of Mango and Nomuka, as well as British national Angela Glover in Tongatapu, Tonga's main island. TOKYO -- Japan reported 32,197 daily COVID-19 cases across the country on Tuesday, exceeding the previous record of 25,992 daily cases in August last year and logging a new all-time high, according to an NHK tally based on data from local governments.

The Tokyo metropolitan government confirmed 5,185 new infection cases, the first time to top 5,000 in nearly five months since Aug. 21, 2021. The number rose more than five times from 962 on last Tuesday, recording the biggest count on Tuesdays ever. (Japan-COVID-19)

ISLAMABAD -- Five people were injured after a passenger train was hit by a bomb explosion and derailed in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Tuesday, Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Azam Khan Swati said.

Calling the incident a cowardly attack, the minister said that insurgents blew up explosive materials near the moving train and the culprits would be arrested soon. (Pakistan-Blast-Train)

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in 2021 decreased from 4.1 percent in the September-November period to 3.9 percent in the fourth quarter, official data showed Tuesday.

The underemployment rate also decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 1.7 percent in the last three months, according to the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government. (Hong Kong-Economy-Unemployment)
