HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) announced on Thursday that its research team has successfully developed "anti-virus 3D printing material" that can kill the COVID-19 virus on surfaces as well as most common viruses and bacteria.

The main component of the material is resin, added with anti-viral agents such as cationic compounds, to pierce the cell membrane of the virus and destroy its structure to kill the virus and bacteria, according to PolyU researchers. (Hong Kong-PolyU-COVID-19 Research)

JAKARTA -- Four people were killed after a train hit a minivan in Indonesia's East Java Province on Thursday afternoon, an official of state-owned railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) said.

The accident occurred when the minivan carrying four people was passing a railroad crossing without a bar gate and no signal in Bayeman village of Probolinggo district, said Tohari, the spokesperson of KAI's Operational Region IX, as reported by the local media. (Indonesia-Road Accident-Deaths)

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported 47 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total tally to 15,797.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, the newly recorded cases included 31 local infections and 16 imported cases.

A total of 309 active cases are currently being treated and monitored and 102 deaths due to the pandemic have been recorded in the Southeast Asian country. (Brunei-COVID-19-Update)

DHAKA -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday urged the unvaccinated people to get jabbed to protect lives from the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Speaking at an inauguration ceremony online, Hasina said the Omicron variant is spreading fast and families are getting infected, calling on all people in the country to follow the health protocols properly and abide by the latest directives issued by the authorities. (Bangladesh-COVID-19-Vaccine)
