BRATISLAVA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Only a week after a surprising victory over the Tipos Extraliga leader HC Slovan Bratislava, the penultimate team HC Nove Zamky managed to win again on Sunday in the 33rd round of the Slovakia's ice hockey premiership, this time 3-2.

HC Slovan Bratislava was intent on taking revenge for a 2-1 defeat in December, but HC Nove Zamky succeeded in answering both Andrew Yogan's goals and the home team's Canadian forward Chris Langkow secured the 3-2 victory in the third period with a shot from behind a teammate. Yogan was close to completing his hat-trick but only hit the post late in the game.

HKM Zvolen used Slovan's blunder to inch closer to the league leader, cutting the deficit to eight points in the standings after a close 1-0 victory over traditional rival HC '05 Banska Bystrica. The defensive battle was decided by Radovan Pulis early in the second period with a rebound from one of his teammate's shots.

In the north of the country, HK Spisska Nova Ves was hoping to end a three-game losing streak and even took the lead in the first period, but the visitors from Michalovce answered with a goal scored in all three periods and took home a 3-1 victory. American goalie Devin Williams had a great night with 36 saves.

The other newcomer HC Grotto Presov could have taken advantage of Spiska Nova Ves' defeat and moved up to seventh in the standings but the visitors from Kosice produced a superb five-minute stretch in the first period, scoring four straight goals by four different players. The home team managed to cut into the deficit by scoring twice afterwards, but Kosice retook the four-goal lead in the middle period, cruising to a 7-4 victory in the end and trailing fourth-ranked HK Nitra by only a single point.
