HONG KONG, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Observatory on Tuesday afternoon issued the No. 8 warning signal as Tropical Cyclone Kompasu is expected to move closest to Hong Kong early on Wednesday morning, skirting within 400 km to the south of the region.
Due to the storm, many public services and activities in Hong Kong have been suspended, with all schools in Hong Kong closed. The Social Welfare Department announced that all its affiliated welfare service units, child care centers, centers that provide after-school care services, and elderly service centers have suspended their operation.
The Hospital Authority said that all general night outpatient clinics under its jurisdiction will be temporarily suspended, while the accident and emergency departments of public hospitals will continue to serve as usual.
Several ferry routes have been halted, and the MTR bus service is expected to be suspended within 3 hours of the warning.
