Obama in quandary over Guantanamo

Hong Kong News.Net
Friday 3rd July, 2009

US President Barack Obama is still unsure about how he is going to deal with the most dangerous terror detainees at the US prison at Guantanamo Bay.

Mr Obama has been struggling over how to place the prisoners since he announced he wanted the prison closed by next January.

Most of the remaining suspects in the prison have been held for many years without charges being laid.

The president has said it would be inappropriate to try the detainees either in the United States or in international jurisdictions.

He has said while he would consider moving some detainees from Guantanamo to other locations for long periods, he would need to proceed very carefully.
